Tetris Effect: Connected
Tetris Effect is, potentially, one of the most tailored-to-me games ever created. Love Tetris. Love Tetsua Miziguchi games. And it’s VR?!?! That sounds as close to a religious experience as I’m ever going to get. But then it was PS4-exclusive at launch. Then it was Epic Games Store exclusive on PC. So . . no religious experiences for me.
An updated version with multiplayer just dropped on Xbox, on Game Pass . . . so in I went.
It’s everything I could have hoped for. It’s so good I’m strongly considering recreating an EGS account to buy it to play it in VR, and then buy it again when it gets re-released on Steam mid next year.
There are a couple tilesets that are brain- and eye-hurty, but overall, wonderful. Everything I wanted. Great soundtrack, great controls, engrossing visuals, the absolutely expected Miziguchi synesthetic effects, it’s perfect. And that’s without it being VR. This game with VR will just be . . amazing. Strongly recommended.
Update: The GamePass version works on PC! It allegedly has VR Support! . . . too bad it doesn’t actually work.
Update 2: They fixed VR support! It turns out VR games are hard when you’re weeping uncontrollably! It turns out high-level Tetris is also pretty hard when your brain feels like it’s full of ecstatic bees! A++++++
