2023 was a truly ludicrous year of gaming. Maybe not on the scale of 1998, but man there were a whole lot of great games.

Best Indie: A very close toss-up between Dredge, Cocoon, and Sea of Stars… but my heart says Sea of Stars if I had to choose. (Edit: Suika Game and Cobalt Core also get big big big late honorable mentions, but Sea of Stars was still the one I enjoyed the most.)

Best Nintendo: Colossal 2023 lineup from Nintendo between mainline entries into the Zelda, Mario and Pikmin series, but it has to be Tears of the Kingdom.

Best Overall: How could it be anything but Baldur’s Gate 3?

What I’m looking forward to in 2024:

  • Animal Well
  • Silksong
  • FF7: Rebirth
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
  • SW: Outlaws (cautiously)

What I NEED from 2024:

  • Switch 2 with Metroid Prime 4 as a launch title
