Hello World (again)
Hi. I’m doing a website again.
This is basically going to be a longer-form version of what I wrote up there at the top, and maybe what I wrote on the about page. So here it is again.
20 years ago (quick aside: holy crap it’s really been 20 years.) I started a gaming fansite. It was a fun distraction during college, and then possibly a little bit too much of a distraction as I was starting my career. Then at some point it just became too much of a hassle. Maintaining software, keeping it up to date, moderating forums, bleh. And at about the same time, streaming and YouTube took of, and that’s just not my jam.
That didn’t stop the fact that I had opinions about games, though.
Right around when The World Ended I found myself with some free time, but most of it had to be quiet free time because I’ve got a young kid now. I notoriously have a terrible memory, and a large part of why I journaled when I was younger, and blogged before blogging was a verb, and wrote in general on the internet was because it’s my external memory.
I had – around that time – also stumbled upon Zettlr + Syncthing as a cross-platform self-hosted way of logging markdown notes. Bouncing between note-taking solutions is another hobby of mine, and this combo is a solution I’ve stuck with for the longest time on record.
So at the start of 2020 I cracked open Zettlr and started writing. I had no intention of publishing it, it was for me to organize my thoughts so I could recommend things. Or so if someone asked for thoughts on a given game, I could go back and see what my thoughts were upon completing it. Then I just kept going.
I’ve now been doing this for two and a half years now, and write up at least 2-3 things on a monthly basis. I have a pretty good idea of what I like, so you’re going to see a lot of “Highly Recommended"eses here. The occasional Not Recommended will be something I was legitimately disappointed in.
Anyway, hi, please enjoy these words. If you do not enjoy these words that’s your problem.
